CHILD SAFEGUARDING STATEMENT

  1. Name of Service being Provided: Olé School of Languages
  2. Nature of Service and Principles to Safeguard Children from Harm:

Olé School of Languages is a Private Language School run by fully qualified Teachers, working to a structured Curriculum for Primary & Secondary School Children and Adults. Olé School of Languages has classes in schools and after school for children and is also run in public venues for children, teenagers and adults. Olé School of Languages run Camps for Primary & Secondary School Children during school midterm break and summer holidays in public venues and schools. Olé School of Languages also organise and run private classes for children, teenagers and adults at the homes of students.

Olé School of Languages believe that the best interests of children and young people attending our classes and camps are paramount. It is committed to upholding the rights of every child and young person who attends the classes and camps. Including the rights to be kept safe and protected from harm, and to be listened to and heard. Olé School of Languages guiding principles apply to all paid staff and students on work placement within Olé School of Languages. All staff and students on work placement must sign up to and abide by these principles and our child safeguarding procedures.

The Designated Liaison Person (DLP) is Cristina Gonzalez.
The Deputy Designated Liaison Person (Deputy DLP) is Jonathan Daly.

  1. Risk Assessment:

We have carried out an assessment for any potential harm to a child while availing of our services. Below is a list of the areas of risks identified and the procedures for managing them.

  1. Procedures:

Our Child Safeguarding Statement has been developed in line with requirements under the Children First Act 2015, the Children First: National Guidance, and Tusla’s Child Safeguarding: A Guide for Policy Procedure and Practice.

In addition to the procedures listed in our risk assessment, the Following procedures support our intention to safeguard children while they are availing of our
service:

  • Procedure for the management of allegations of abuse or misconduct against staff and students on
    work placement of a child availing of our services.
  • Procedures for the safe recruitment of staff and students on work placement to work with children, and adheres to the statutory vetting requirements of the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016 and to the wider duty of care guidance set out in relevant Garda Vetting and recruitment circulars published by the DES and available on the DES website.
  • Procedure for provision of and access to child safeguarding training and information, including the identification of the occurrence of harm.
  • Procedure for the reporting of child protection or welfare concerns to Tusla.
  • Procedure for maintaining a list of the persons (if any) in the relevant service who are mandated.
  • Procedure for appointing a relevant person.

  1. Implementation:

We recognise that implementation is an ongoing process. Our service is committed to the implementation of this Child Safeguarding Statement and the procedures that support our intention to keep children safe from harm while availing of our service. This Child Safeguarding Statement will be reviewed annually, and will be reviewed again on 5th of January 2024, or as soon as practicable after there has been any material change in any matter to which the statement refers

This statement has been published on our website, www.olesol.ie, and has been provided to all members of school personnel. It is readily accessible to parents and guardians on request. A copy of this Statement will be made available to Tusla and the Department if requested.
